Somatic Movement is a non-invasive, exploratory process of awakening and deepening the awareness of an individual towards his or her experience of the body in motion.
In developing the capacity to listen to the body, we can begin to understand how events that have shaped our lives can show up in our bodies as stress, trauma, chronic pain, depression and unhealthy patterns. Working sensitively with the body through tracking inner sensation, movement, bodywork, and self reflective arts practice, we can begin to release habitual and muscular holding patterns and re-frame unhealthy beliefs. In doing so, we can begin to regulate the nervous system, and expand our capacity to tend to challenging life situations, discovering new movement possibilities and emotional responses.
Sessions
Sessions combine somatic movement techniques and the Tamalpa Life/Art Process - an intermodal arts approach that uses the tools of movement, drawing, writing and dialogue to explore the relationship between the physical, emotional and imaginal levels of experience. We explore movement, breath, gravity, posture, gesture, voice, imagination, to give voice to the themes, challenges, potentials and discover the resources that support us in our lives.
